I’m a big fan of Bukowski ! I know he’s not the cup of tea of a lot of people, and that makes him even more interesting for me, he’s definitely «my glass of wine» .
Charles Bukowski was a German-American poet and novelist, and also short story writer. (1920-1994). Something haunted Charles Bukowski for his entire life a part from women and this was clearly one thing : drinking. He used it to gain confidence and to create at night. Alcohol was his never-ending muse and fuel, his darkness and his joy.
On Drinking is a powerful manifest to the pleasures and despairs of a drinking life, together with the invitation to witness the soul of a great writer.
«For Many people who are caught out of place and time in our society, drink is not a slow form of suicide but a deterrant from it. Drink is the only music and dance they are allowed. The last cheap and available miracle. When I came in from the slaugtherhouse or the parts factory, that bottle of wine was my god in the sky.»
«Some people never go crazy. What truly horrible lives they must live.»
«I think that the most horrible people are the well-balanced, the healthy and the purposeful.»
But there’s much more to discover and enjoy in all his prolific work. What are you waiting for? Go and grab some Bukowski now to cheer up your winter together with a nice bottle of wine !
